A great option for digital marketing task automation is a service by IFTTT (if this then that).
Get started with IFTTT, the easiest way to do more with your favorite apps and devices for free. Make your home more relaxing. Make your work more productive. Keep your data private and secure. We believe every thing works better together.

With IFTTT there is a free option to get started with a couple of applets (automations), and then if you want more there is a reasonable monthly cost for the service.

The way IFTTT works is that automations called applets can be setup to automate things. All IFTTT applets require a trigger (or an "if this") and an action (the "then that").

IFTTT asks like a hub, and allows application developers to partner to expose their APIs. What this means is that the IFTTT community are continuously adding new applets for everyone to use.

As at writing applets that would be directly useful from a social media and digital marketing point of view include:

  • Email
  • Facebook
  • Facebook Pages
  • Feedly
  • Giphy
  • GMail
  • Google contacts
  • Google sheets
  • Instagram
  • Mailchimp

It is also possible to trigger applets with a timer, a callback or even with your own custom IFTTT applet.

Some digital marketing usage examples include:

  • Twitter post to Email - if a new post from an account happens on Twitter then send notification email. Useful when you want to keep up-to-date with a particular user.
  • Twitter search to Google sheets - put Twitter search results in Google sheet for later review. Useful when you want a summary about what people are Tweeting about.
  • Stripe to Gmail - email new stripe customer with instructions about how to use service/product. Useful to help with welcoming customers.
